What are the waves like in Chicama?

​Lobitos offers long, peeling left-hand point breaks ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers. The main wave can hold decent size and provides multiple manoeuvre sections – and even a barrel on the inside. The sandy bottom makes it friendly while still offering plenty of performance potential. You can easily clock rides over 200 metres on a good day.

 

When is the surf season in Chicama?

The best swell season in Lobitos runs from April to October, when south swells hit the Peruvian coastline with consistency. During these months, offshore winds and dry weather create ideal surfing conditions, with wave sizes ranging from shoulder-high to double overhead. Water temperatures are cool but manageable with a spring suit or 3/2 wetsuit.

 

What can you do besides surfing?

When you're not in the water, you can explore the quiet fishing village vibe, enjoy ceviche at local spots, relax in the hammocks, or join sunset yoga sessions. For those into photography or videography, the desert-meets-ocean setting offers incredible light and scenery. Some afternoons, we also run surf video analysis and group hangouts.

 

Are there other surf spots nearby?

Yes! One of the perks of this region is the variety of nearby breaks. Within a short drive, you’ll find other world-class lefts like Piscinas, Baterías, and the heavier El Hueco. If conditions align, we might also score waves at Organos or even Máncora. Our local guides know where to go depending on the swell and tide.
